We Sold Specialization
Only After It Worked on Us
I built Deck Builder Marketing because Lemur Marketing couldn’t attract deck builders
When I started Lemur Marketing and went directly after deck builders, the results were bad. The pitch was right. The work was right. Nobody trusted it, because the name did not signal anything specific. To a deck builder, Lemur Marketing was just another agency that would also take a dentist.
So I did the thing I now tell every client to do. I created a niche DBA: Deck Builder Marketing. Same services, same team, same person on the call. Only the positioning changed. The trust showed up immediately.
That is an uncomfortable lesson to learn about your own company, and it is the reason this page exists. We are not recommending a branding exercise we read about. We ran it on ourselves, watched it fail as a generalist, and watched it work as a specialist.

The same move works for a contractor. A generalist doing $3,000 to $5,000 jobs under a name like Bob’s Construction competes on price with everyone. The same crew, positioned as a specialist, quotes $20,000 to $50,000 projects and stops being compared to the cheapest bid.
